I would love to talk about my love of buying and fixing up and selling primitive antiques and collectibles.
Join me in what has become a lifetime of treasure hunting in the back yards and out buildings of middle America!
About Me
Name: JulesJ
Location: Washington, Midwest, United States
I have a lot to say when you talk to my and I'm finding not much to say when asked about me! LOL
I am married, to my best friend and take care of the home and the office duties for our 2 home run businesses
That keeps me pretty busy.
I also have 2 grown kids and 2 grandson's Freddie who just turned 10 and Lamont who turns 5 on December the 21st!
Time flies and they are all the apple of my eyes!
I love to attend auctions and tag sales, here abouts we call 'em Yard Sales.
I love Primitive antiques and collectibles!
I like to take something that a lot of folks would throw out and make something out of it, or just fix it up, spruce it up, change it up.
Then I either add it to my collection or most of the time I enjoy selling at a couple of local stores/antique malls.
The most important thing in my life is my relationship with Jesus Christ, I can't say enough how good God has been to me!
Though in each life there is a lot of pain and heartache with Jesus, all things are possible! Luke 18:27
I just read a book that I would just love to discuss with you all here at Blogger! The name is "The Shack" by WM. Paul Young.
Here is a link to the web-site where you can buy the book, read a sample of the book and hear about it.
http://theshackbook.com/aimages/bookmarkad.jpg
I for one will be on there discussing the story, although a "novel" it really sets your mind to reeling over our relationship to God, Jesus, and the Holy Ghost.
I hope that some of you have already read it and those who have not will buy, or borrow it and give it a read!
This song so blessed me that I felt I wanted to share it with all of you this time of the year when we honor and celebrate the birth of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. I am praying that I am able to load this You Tube video, but if it won't come up here then look up the song, Mary Did You Know. I first heard it on the radio station I listen to "Thy Word Network" by Myrrh and as I said was blessed, and wanted to hear it again and again. I pray that it blesses you as much as it did me.
In a time when so many don't even remember why we celebrate I am so grateful for the promise of eternal life that was given us by God through the precious blood of our Saviour Jesus Christ. May His love and grace be with you and your loved ones both now and through out the coming year.
I have started selling some new items, and added back in some oldies and goodies.
I have started selling Park Designs some items are there Christmas tree stars, and mostly the kitchen linens ie the sentiments dish towels and the various other textiles that Park has to offer. As always I love lamps, so a couple of the lamps and shades I've added to my two booths as well as to the other store I'm in where my two other cohorts do the decorating, that's the Petersburg Indiana store , Somewhere in Tyme. I'm most proud of the items that I've added from my friends here on the Blogs. I'm now offering from Miss Pootsie's Primitives, her great little dolls. Also I've added a version of our friend Vicki's rusty can folk art, although I haven't her talent in this arena, I do my own version and just add some Christmas candy, my favorite tea bags, Cinnamon sticks, small toys, etc I wrap it all up with a bow and a grungy tag. They make a great stocking stuffer. The oldie's but goodies are the grungy taper candles I get on ebay from various sellers. If any of you in my Glad Tidings Primitives and Folkart, are making these candles I'd love to check out yours as well!
If any of you have any ideas on what other items I might branch off into, I sure do welcome your input. I have been really trying to make this my living, I am back working in the store, The Old Tin Lantern, part time again to supplement my limited resources but full time work there is not available so I depend on what I can buy and sell to satisfy my financial needs.
Thanks for all of your great ideas, and I pray I will be able to help some of you as well!
How to begin… The light of any mothers life are her children, daughters a special blessing as they grow into our best friends. My daughter is no exception to this rule, but is an exceptional woman, a young woman I grow increasingly proud of as years go on. Though adolescence through teen years were adventurous, she managed through her own perseverance to get her college degree, while being Mom to our 2nd grandson Lamont, (her first son) and remaining on the dean’s list every grading period, a practice that she started from grade school on. All these things I cannot take an ounce of credit for, as I said it was through her hard work and perseverance. This year has increased our joy, yes we have a birth announcement! I know I kind of just jumped into that but the excitement overtook me LOL December 1, 2008 brings to the family of Darnell and Melissa Green, and of course big brother Lamont Deshawn Green, Aiden Michael Green! All 8 lb 1 oz , 20 inches of him! Now this may seem a pretty good sized boy and yes he is a buster, but brother Lamont weighed in at 9 lb. so we were grateful to the Doctor for delivering a couple of weeks early (only of course after ultrasounds to show that baby was fully developed and ready to be born) But this little guy came into the world with a lot of prayer too. Momma had gestational diabetes and we (me of course mostly) were very concerned about his, and Moms well being, and honestly his size. My girl is tiny and I do mean tiny and her first boy being 9 lb , was concerned the 2nd would be 10 lb + . So every church service we prayed and of course I was praying at home too. I know once you give it to the Lord in prayer once you needant ask again, all you need do is trust in Him and He will take care of you, but that is one of my well not very strong suites that is I worry, lol. But I’m here to testify that God answers prayer, and with so many praying there was just no question of the outcome, not only is he healthy and a perfect birthweight, but the Lord had started her labors on His own! The doctors went ahead with what they do, but God had it all under control! Both mother and child are well and coming to Mom and Nathan’s house tonight to spend the week end and go to church in the morning! You see that is an answer to prayer too, I have longed for them to be there and to have my grandsons (at least 2 of them anyway) in church and learning about Jesus. God answers prayer!
God bless you all and have a very, very Merry Christmas.
From the Jones'
The Gospel according to St. Luke 2
The Birth of Jesus Mt. 1.18-25 1 And it came to pass in those days, that there went out a decree from Caesar Augustus, that all the world should be taxed. 2 (And this taxing was first made when Cyre'ni-us was governor of Syria.) 3 And all went to be taxed, every one into his own city. 4 And Joseph also went up from Galilee, out of the city of Nazareth, into Judea, unto the city of David, which is called Bethlehem, (because he was of the house and lineage of David,) 5 to be taxed with Mary his espoused wife, being great with child. 6 And so it was, that, while they were there, the days were accomplished that she should be delivered. 7 And she brought forth her firstborn son, and wrapped him in swaddling clothes, and laid him in a manger; because there was no room for them in the inn.
The Shepherds and the Angels 8 ¶ And there were in the same country shepherds abiding in the field, keeping watch over their flock by night. 9 And, lo, the angel of the Lord came upon them, and the glory of the Lord shone round about them; and they were sore afraid. 10 And the angel said unto them, Fear not: for, behold, I bring you good tidings of great joy, which shall be to all people. 11 For unto you is born this day in the city of David a Saviour, which is Christ the Lord. 12 And this shall be a sign unto you; Ye shall find the babe wrapped in swaddling clothes, lying in a manger. 13 And suddenly there was with the angel a multitude of the heavenly host praising God, and saying, 14 Glory to God in the highest,
I don't know about you all but I'm getting weary of the hot weather! My Summer with no air in may aging fast '96 Z71 pickup was loooooonnnnnnggggg!!!! But not to complain you understand just to whine abit...... The harvest at the family garden was bountiful, and my Sister in law is the best cook of this cuisine, bar none that has ever set a Sunday table! I'm so grateful that she seems to love to make the family (a sizable crew) diner after church on Sunday most every week! No wonder I'm adding the pounds on, and a pleasure each and every one! My biggest news is the same as always, and that's my booths at the Old Tin Lantern in Washington, IN and Somewhere in Tyme in Petersburg, Indiana. Mostly the one in Washington as the one in Petersburg the other ladies and myself have pretty much taken over the store with our items and antics. There is not much better than these quality girl times we spend, some nights until 4 am the next morning. We always start our evening out in prayer, our prayer leader is generally our sister Jamie, who I am quite sure has God's ear her prayers are so beautiful and her heart is so full of God, it can't help but bless you as well! But then we're down to business moving and shaking and decorating that store til it's well, stunning! Not bragging cause I can't take much of the credit, those girls are just about the most talented ladies I've ever known! My husband is out horsin and cowin most of the time so I get lots of quality time with my computer, and the various sides of my antiquing. I am so grateful to have made the connections to you my new sisters here at the Blogs! In case those of you checking my Blog have wondered, I've yet to have figured out just how to add you all to my favorite Blogs, and will need more of that quality time on line to do that too, cause I'm sure that I'll love reading what you all write as well. Well didn't really have much to catch you up on just reaching out over the internet to give you all a big old Christian hug and say I love you!
Don't forget to keep our nation in your prayers, this is the most important election of our lifetimes!
God Bless!
Julie
Here's some of what I've been up to LOL
And here's the result, my booth at The Old Tin Lantern
I'd like to tell you about some amazing people that have crossed through into my life. This story all starts with a little girl who attends my church..... She is just one of those children whose family life is not what it should be. We all know them and there are far to many with her story out in this world right now. She is really blessed to have come into a church family who really cares about her, and she is really easy to care about. She's 9 years old, that says volumes, it's tough to be 9 anyway but to be a child who's a little bit different makes it tough for her She is so much more than the things that make her "different" , As Mom says she Knows that Jesus loves her! She also know that God answers prayer, to have such faith and confidence at any age is more than many ever find. She is so very sweet and loving! Every service she is allowed to attend, when the call comes from the pulpit for prayer requests, the first hand to raise is hers! My Mom, she'll say! She loves her mom and dad so very much as all children do, but I am very sure it's hard for her to feel that they love her back, there seems to be no time left in a day for their sweet little girl. Dad has custody of her and has to work, but doesn't really know what to do to raise a little girl on his own. Mom has just kinda bowed out for a bit, I'm very sure that God will bring her back to her sweet child, I know Mom has hurts too, but in the mean time this sweet little girl has to depend on a Dad who doesn't know a thing about girls, to figure out what a 9 year old girl needs, and all with a limited income. He tries and loves her thats the main thing! But in the mean time this little girl has only 1 dress to wear to church and very few school clothes. Since she wears a larger size she falls through the cracks at all of the local church and community programs to clothe lower income kids for school. Our church does it's best and can't always find items in the correct size for a girl of 9. I am really slow to notice these things, clothes are not my "thing" I know that's crazy me being a girl, but just true. But, I finally over heard my Mom in law talking about not being able to find things to fit the little girl, and how some of the items picked out for her, a lady closer to her age said that a pair of the shoes looked like "Grandma" shoes. Of course this hurt her little feelings, but she is so sweet she still wears them anyway without any complaint. But I told Mom, I'll just check on Ebay and see what I can locate! Surely we can find her some dresses and clothes there! Well I did, and found her 2 dresses! One "buy it now" and one to bid on. I sent a message to the seller and actually I told the seller the situation with the little girl and her sizes and asked her if she had access to more things appropriate for this little 9 year old, and asked her if she could wait for payment on the buy it now until we saw if I had won the other auction. She was so nice! She said of course we could wait, and yes she had more items, and listed what they were and said also her daughters wanted to give this little girl, a little girl they didn't even know, at my church a gift to help her out! Well we have e-mailed back and forth for about a week, this seller has even sent me photo's of other items for our little girl, and I finally won the auction, and am awaiting shipment of all the items that this great eBay seller is sending to help out a little girl she has never met!
Thank You Jesus!!
God is so good! He sends so many angels into our lives, how can we help but praise Him! I'm quite sure I've met another person who has come into my life because the Lord wants them in my life.
I will update you all when I see the end of this, that is when the sweet little girl receives her gifts, I know that she will be truly grateful, she is just that kind of child.
Well before I jump right in there with my news let me start our sharing with you the long process of getting here. I first started making my own Victorian style lampshades for myself when researching to buy them and couldn't find them readily, however found in a Victorian magazine an add for a video (that's several years ago lol) to make your own, so I did and the process has begun. This particular lamp base I found quite beautiful, so set out to make a really individual shade to fit it, I researched a lot before finding the perfect glass beaded fringe, and lay awake nights planning the actual decoration of the shade, it turned out beautifully! Well fast forward...my first decorating love is Primitives so eventually the Victorian lamps and shades I've made don't fit quite in with my home, but no problem, I'll just sell them, right? I mean they're very pretty.... I had some small luck in the beginning and sold one out of a pair of boudoir lamps (mistake to separate them but live and learn) But 2 years later and I still have the nicest I made, or did anyway. I'm getting ahead however, the lamps have been in the store I sell in and love, for about a year now, and the owner has been nice enough to let me showcase them in her front window, but you can only do that for so long and then the window needs changing, and I needed to sell the lamps. I almost never pray about anything so secular in nature, but I know that God cares about me and my needs too, so I prayed, Lord please sell these lamps, (Oh yes and I was worried about packing them too so I asked to please find me a box lol) and please help the sale of them to give YOU the greater Glory! Well you guessed it, or more to fact you know that God answers prayer! And the main lamp, the one that's at the end of this Blog, SOLD! Thank You Jesus!
You'd think this to be the end of the story....... Well no not quite yet, you remember I asked to help this sale to glorify God...Well right away, my prayer about the box was taken care of, my sister in law had given me a box that worked, I walked out to my storage area and There it Was all along! So I hear back from the wonderful lady who bought the lamp, I won't go into to many details about that to respect her privacy, but she was a doll! I will say that much! Well in the process of wrapping the lamp base like it was going to have a bomb lit underneath it OH NO yes, I tapped the delicate bobeche around the very top of the base with the plastic wrap dispenser and POP a small piece fell off, I cried, and cried, then called my husband. "How will I tell this special lady?" "Will she understand?" He calmly said "Glue the piece back on and give her back the price of the lamp base, the value after all is in the shade, it would look great on another base" I agreed, so I did and I emailed her with what I proposed to do, I taped $50 in cash on the lamp base and went ahead with the packing of the lamp. In the mean time I get a nice return email from her, saying "Oh that's fine, and thanks so much for your honesty, I can't wait to get my lamp!" That's God my friends! He has a way of putting good people in our lives! And I think, that although I'm sure He had nothing to do with my klutziness , He helped me make that the rest of my answered prayer, to help Glorify His Great and Holy name!
Thanks for listening I know this was a long testimony, but it was one of my best!
God Bless
Julie
Oh yes and He has put many other's in my life that I've met on line, one of which is another Blogger and E Bay seller that's probably reading this right now.....
